A distinctive identity and website for a brand built around mobile photography

Launched in 2023, Camera Phone Workshop helps people unlock the creative potential of the camera in their pocket. Offering practical, hands-on sessions for individuals, families, schools and corporate teams, the workshops are led by a professional photographer with a passion for making mobile photography more accessible and more enjoyable. What began as an occasional sideline quickly gained momentum, and rising demand led to the creation of a dedicated brand. With a niche subject, no existing identity, and a need to connect with a broad audience, Camera Phone Workshop required a distinctive and approachable brand presence built from the ground up. Injekt partnered with them to develop the visual identity, launch the website, and create a suite of assets to help introduce the new brand to the world.

We worked to establish a clear and compelling brand narrative that reflected Camera Phone Workshop’s mission: to make creative photography simple, engaging and accessible for everyone. With a focus on clarity, approachability and energy, we developed the foundations of a brand identity that would appeal to a wide demographic, from parents and schools to businesses and casual creatives. The strategy was rooted in the founder’s professional background and teaching style, helping to shape a tone of voice and visual language that felt credible, down-to-earth and creatively confident.

At the heart of the concept was the challenge of creating a logo that clearly represented the core element of this business, a camera phone, without relying on the design of any specific device or brand. It needed to be instantly recognisable, familiar but neutral, and serve as a universal symbol of the everyday camera experience. Early sketch exploration focused on distilling this idea into simple, functional forms. From outlines of phones and lenses to playful layouts using type, these studies helped define a direction that was clear, versatile and distinct.

The final logo takes direct inspiration from the iPhone’s distinctive camera shape, a rounded square with three lenses and a flash, abstracted into a simple, flexible mark. It strikes the balance between familiarity and neutrality, clearly signalling a camera phone without tying the brand to a specific model. This was a deliberate move. In October 2024, Apple held over 50% of the UK smartphone market, making the iPhone the most recognisable mobile device for The Camera Phone Workshop’s target audience. The mark is supported by a bold, friendly typeface and a bright, high-contrast colour palette that reflects the creative, energetic tone of the workshops.

The website was designed with accessibility and clarity at its core, ensuring that every part of the target audience could navigate with ease. From parents booking family sessions to companies arranging team workshops, the layout and structure were kept simple and intuitive. Visual elements from the brand identity, such as the rounded camera shape, were carried through into UI details like buttons and icons to create a cohesive experience. Given the nature of the business, the site was designed with a mobile-first mindset, ensuring that it performs seamlessly on the very devices the workshops are built around.
